Focusing on two states
Former NFL running back Chris Johnson is the latest person to become a BetMGM brand ambassador. The sportsbook operator announced on Thursday that the former Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, and Arizona Cardinals star will be a part of upcoming BetMGM market campaigns, social media content, fan events, and promotions.
The partnership will mainly focus on the Arizona and Tennessee markets, where BetMGM has sportsbooks in operation. Johnson took to Twitter on Thursday to inform his followers about his new brand ambassador role:
The latest brand ambassador
Speaking about getting on board with BetMGM as a brand ambassador, Johnson talked about his excitement at joining the team. He said: “BetMGM is at the forefront of the excitement surrounding sports betting and is a perfect fit for me to get involved in this rapidly growing industry.”
BetMGM chief revenue officer Matt Prevost welcomed Johnson, noting the thrill that the former running back gave to football fans every time he stepped onto the football field. Prevost said: “As we continue to expand BetMGM’s presence in Arizona and Tennessee, Chris will play a key role in helping us provide new and engaging experiences for our customers.”
BetMGM has been signing up similar types of brand ambassadors in states in which it has a sports betting presence. These ambassadors are often former athletes who were fan favorites in their particular states. Other current BetMGM brand ambassadors include five-time Pro Bowler and former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch, Boston Celtics legend Kevin Garnett, and the all-time great NHL star Wayne Gretzky.
A stellar playing career
Johnson played a total of ten seasons in the NFL and earned a reputation for being one of the most productive running backs of his generation. “CJ2K” became one of just eight people in the history of the NFL to rush more than 2,000 yards in a single season, amassing 2,006 yards for the Titans in 2009.

That same year, he was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year and made three consecutive Pro Bowls from 2008 to 2010. Johnson retired from the NFL in November 2018; he signed a one-day contract in April 2019 with Tennessee to retire as a Titan.
