Morpheus at City of Dreams Macau has become the first hotel in Macau to receive Three MICHELIN Keys, the highest level in the MICHELIN Guide’s hotel recognition system. The Melco Resorts & Entertainment property moved up from Two Keys in the 2026 selection.
The distinction places Morpheus at the top of Macau’s nine recognized hotels this year. Hong Kong and Macau together have 19 properties with MICHELIN Keys in the latest selection, marking the second year that hotels from both regions have participated in the program.
The MICHELIN Guide uses a three-level system for hotels. One MICHELIN Key represents “A very special stay”, Two Keys mean “An exceptional stay” and Three Keys signify “An extraordinary stay”. Morpheus is the only Macau property currently holding the highest rating.
According to Inside Asian Gaming, the Guide also described Morpheus as a property that “stands as a triumph of futuristic architectural design and ultra-luxury hospitality. Designed by the late Dame Zaha Hadid, the iconic steel-exoskeleton tower seamlessly merges cutting-edge engineering with world-class gastronomy and personalized guest services.”
Morpheus Moves to the Highest Key Level
Morpheus forms part of Melco’s City of Dreams Macau casino resort. Dame Zaha Hadid designed the building, whose free-form external steel structure wraps around its glass façade. The architectural concept drew inspiration from traditional Chinese jade carving.
The hotel’s design allows its interior to operate without conventional vertical columns in key spaces. Other features include panoramic glass elevators and guestrooms equipped with smart-room technology. Guests can control various room functions through tablets.
Dining options include Alain Ducasse at Morpheus, which holds Two MICHELIN Stars, as well as Yi, which serves contemporary Chinese cuisine. The property also includes a rooftop pool overlooking Cotai.
The 2026 hotel assessment described the property as combining “futuristic architectural design” with its hospitality offering.
MICHELIN introduced its Key system in 2024 across 15 destinations before expanding the program globally. Inspectors evaluate hotels anonymously and independently, following a model comparable to the organization’s restaurant assessment process.
Banyan Tree Macau Also Receives an Upgrade
Banyan Tree Macau at Galaxy Macau also advanced in the 2026 selection, moving from One MICHELIN Key to Two. The promotion raises Macau’s total number of Two-Key properties to four.
Banyan Tree joins Grand Lisboa Palace Macau, Palazzo Versace Macau and The Karl Lagerfeld at the Two-Key level. Grand Lisboa Palace Macau, Palazzo Versace Macau and The Karl Lagerfeld form part of SJM Holdings’ Grand Lisboa Palace casino resort in Cotai.
Banyan Tree’s accommodation includes suites measuring at least 100 square meters, with villas exceeding 450 square meters. Its suites have private relaxation pools, while villas feature crystal Jacuzzi pools. Selected accommodation also offers private gardens and dedicated butler service.
Four Seasons Hotel Macao, The Londoner Hotel, The Ritz-Carlton Macau and The St. Regis Macao each received One MICHELIN Key.
All nine Macau hotels recognized in the 2026 list operate within casino resorts.
The wider Asian selection also includes casino-resort hotels outside Macau. Marina Bay Sands in Singapore holds One Key. NUSTAR Hotel Cebu and Hotel Okura Manila in the Philippines each received their first One-Key distinction in 2026.
Across Asia, 34 hotels received Three Keys in the latest selection.
Global MICHELIN Key List Reaches 2,832 Hotels
The 2026 Global Keys selection covers 2,832 hotels. Of that total, 155 properties hold Three Keys, 657 have Two Keys and 2,020 received One Key.
The latest edition added almost 470 newly distinguished establishments across 79 destinations. It also “introduces MICHELIN Keys in 10 new destinations for the first time: Armenia, Benin, Botswana, Kazakhstan, Liechtenstein, Mongolia, Myanmar, Rwanda, Slovakia, and Zimbabwe”.
Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide, commented on the growth of the program.
“This second global selection of the MICHELIN Keys reflects the extraordinary momentum driving the hospitality sector once again this year,” said Poullennec.
“With nearly 470 newly distinguished establishments, we are witnessing a continuous upscaling of the offering, driven by even more creative and ambitious projects. All around the world, hoteliers are reinventing the stay experience through more immersive, personalized, and experiential concepts.
